High Friction Surface Treatment is a life- saving safety enhancement. The HFST increases the skid resistance of the pavement surface under wet or dry conditions. On treated roads, drivers benefit from shorter stopping distances and greater traction on hills and curves. A two part epoxy binder is applied to the road immediately followed by an aggregate topping. The uniquely angular geometry of the aggregate provides for the high friction of the finished surface. High Friction Surfacing treatments are classified by the Federal Highway Administration as a low cost safety solution, and qualify for safety funding under highway safety improvement programs.
